Jobber is field-service software for running the jobs you already have — scheduling, quoting, invoicing, and dispatching. A website with lead capture and a CRM is for getting those jobs in the first place. They solve different problems, and plenty of contractors end up using both. If you’re trying to decide between them, the real question isn’t “which is better” — it’s “which problem am I actually trying to fix right now?”
Here’s the honest breakdown.
What Jobber is genuinely good at
Jobber (and tools like it, such as Housecall Pro) is job-management software. It shines once the work is already coming in:
- Scheduling and dispatching your crew
- Sending quotes and estimates
- Invoicing and collecting payment
- Keeping a client’s job history in one place
If your headache is running the work — messy scheduling, slow invoicing, paperwork — that’s exactly what Jobber is built to fix, and it does it well. We’re not here to knock it.
What it’s not built to do
Here’s the gap: job-management software is designed to manage work you already have — not to go get you more of it. That means it generally doesn’t handle:
- A real marketing website built to rank on Google
- Local SEO — showing up when someone nearby searches for your trade
- Answering the calls you miss while you’re on a job
- Nurturing a lead who isn’t ready to book yet
Some of these tools include a basic website builder, but a simple template page isn’t the same as a fast, trade-specific site built to actually rank and convert. If your problem is “the phone isn’t ringing enough,” job software won’t move that needle — because that’s not its job.
What a website + lead system does instead
This is the other half — the front of the funnel, the part that fills your schedule in the first place:
- A website that gets you found. Fast, mobile-first, and built for local SEO so you show up when customers search. (More on that in the local SEO checklist for contractors.)
- Lead capture that stops the leaks. Relay texts back every call you miss, grabs the caller’s details, and sends them to you — because contractors miss a lot of calls, and each one is a lost job.
- A CRM to keep leads from slipping. The Uptick CRM tracks every lead and follow-up from first call to booked job, so nothing gets forgotten in a pile of texts and voicemails.
Notice these don’t overlap much with Jobber. One side gets the work; the other side runs it.
So do you need both?
Often, yes — and that’s the point. A lot of contractors run Jobber to manage their jobs and an Uptick website with Relay to bring the jobs in. They’re complementary, not competing. We’re not asking you to rip out the software that runs your operation; we fill the gap it leaves at the top of the funnel.
How to decide where to start
Ask yourself which problem is costing you more right now:
- “I can’t keep up with scheduling, quotes, and invoices.” → Start with job-management software like Jobber.
- “I’m not getting enough leads / I don’t show up on Google / I keep missing calls.” → Start with a website + lead system. That’s us.
Most businesses eventually want both. But you fix the bleeding first — and for a lot of contractors, the bleeding is leads, not logistics.
